The "Studien- und Fördergesellschaft der Schleswig-Holsteinischen Wirtschaft e.V." has been honoring companies with the "Umweltpreis der Wirtschaft" since 1984.

The award winners are companies from Schleswig-Holstein that make or have made significant contributions to the protection of nature and the environment in conjunction with the business community. The award recognizes activities that go beyond what is required by law and meet the needs of the environment and the economy in an exemplary manner through new processes, new products or in other ways. The award ceremony took place on November 13, 2023 in the State House in Kiel. The welcoming address by Kristina Herbst (President of the Schleswig-Holstein State Parliament), the laudatory speech and award presentation by Dr. Philipp Murmann (Chairman) and the subsequent welcoming address by Tobias Goldschmidt (Minister for Energy Transition, Climate Protection, Environment and Nature) made it a successful evening.

Worlée-Chemie was awarded the environmental prize for the "camelina project" this year. The prize was accepted by Johanna von Eben-Worlée (shareholder of the Worlée Group), accompanied by Dr. ir. Toine Biemans and Matthias Körber, who were instrumental in the success of the project.

The Camelina oil project project

The transformation to a more sustainable world will also challenge the coatings and raw materials industry in the coming years. We would like to make our contribution here and are therefore developing more sustainable binders and additives for a wide range of formulations. The use of camelina oil instead of linseed oil in alkyd resins can play a significant role here. Camelina oil is an alternative raw material that produces almost identical results in application. Together with regional farmers, we have already been growing camelina in mixed crop cultivation together with peas since 2017. Through regional cultivation, we have short transport routes and less energy consumed for transport. The advantage: less alternative oils have to be imported for the production of binders.

Our goal is to increasingly replace linseed oil with camelina oil and to increase the yield to 200 - 250 tons per year. Equally important to us is the expansion of hectares for mixed crop cultivation via regional farmers in northern Germany.
