Fair trade at the source
Worlée NaturProdukte GmbH supports Fairtrade projects in India, Egypt, Madagascar, Burkina Faso and Sri Lanka that promote the social, economic and ecological development of farming communities. The projects are organised by the producers themselves and the products we procure from them are Fairtrade-certified. You can find an overview of them in our product search.
Fairtrade certification offers farmers numerous benefits. In order to provide protection from price drops on the international market, minimum prices and premiums are established for each individual product by the Fairtrade Labelling Organizations International e.V. The umbrella organisation for fair trade also promotes sustainable production through fixed mark-ups. Producers can decide for themselves how they want to use their Fairtrade premiums.
Through exclusive partnerships, Worlée NaturProdukte helps to improve living and working conditions in the countries of origin of our plant-based raw materials. We see close, long-term collaboration as an integral part of this. We want the local farmers to know that their goods will continue to be purchased in the future and they won’t have to search for a new partner year after year. This gives them security and enables them to plan better for the future.
Our Fairtrade cooperative projects
Fairly traded organic products from Sir Lanka
In recent years, a remarkable agricultural project has been founded in western Sri Lanka, which has been funded and accompanied by Worlée NaturProdukte GmbH from the very outset.
In 2009, farmers in the Sri Lankan region formed a growers’ group and have since been producing Fairtrade-certified raw materials for the global market. In addition to spices such as ginger, pepper, cloves, cinnamon, mace and turmeric, gotu kola and coconut are also grown. Along with organic certification for their cultivation methods, the farmers were awarded the mark back in 2002. Seven years later, the decision was also taken to certify the social standards with the Fairtrade mark.
Our Fairtrade supplier in Sri Lanka invests the premium in grants for educational, awareness and training programmes for farmers and local communities. For example, various workshops are organised that deal with topics such as the prevention of soil erosion and its long-term effects. Projects are also established for farmers on topics including cultivation systems, compost production as a natural fertiliser and plant propagation. The premiums earned are also used to improve local provisions through medical camps and water pumps. Together, these form building blocks for a more secure future in the region.
The Fairtrade products we procure through this project are also certified in accordance with the EU Organic logo and Naturland, NOP and Bio Suisse requirements.
Fairtrade and organic from cultivation to finished goods
With the aim of achieving harmony between the local agricultural ecosystem and surrounding nature whilst liberating local farmers from external influences, Worlée NaturProdukte GmbH collaborates with a local partner on a cultivation project in Burkina Faso.
Backed by expert knowledge and advice from Germany, our partner assists and supports Burkina Faso’s small farmers and family-run agricultural businesses with everything related to biodynamic, organic farming.
In order to ensure adequate support for the farmers, our project partner provides experienced, professional agricultural specialists to accompany farmers through the conversion from conventional to organic farming.
A special feature of the project is that the majority of workers in the processing plants are women, whose additional income enables them to support their families financially. To allow them to work, the families can make use of a free childcare facility.
Through the continued purchase of organic mango, cashews, hibiscus and ginger by Worlée NaturProdukte and the premiums earned through the Fairtrade products, a solid livelihood is ensured for farmers in Burkina Faso.
